The 2025 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance will still have a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, but it will also have a permanently excited synchronous electric motor, resulting in a massive 791 horsepower and 1055 pound-feet of torque.
The enormous sedan accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a claimed 3.2 seconds and reaches a electronically limited top speed of 180 mph. When paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, the V-8 engine produces 603 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque on its own. The hot-V configuration, which places turbochargers in between the cylinder banks, is said to make the vehicle more responsive. The 400-volt electrical system of the V-8 also includes a belt-driven starter-generator.
The electric motor, on the other hand, is connected to a two-speed transmission, an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, and the rear axle. When the e-motor reaches its maximum speed of 13,500 rpm, the second gear engages, bringing the motor back to the low rpm at which it produces its maximum torque. The electric motor has the ability to produce a continuous 94 hp or 188 hp for up to 10 seconds. The all-wheel-drive system enables the S63 to operate as an all-wheel-drive electric vehicle, despite the fact that the gas and electric powertrains use separate transmissions.
The 13.1-kWh battery pack, which can be found above the rear axle, has a driving range of about 20 miles. Mercedes claims that putting the motor and battery on the rear axle improves handling and weight distribution.
The S63 has four regeneration levels, with the lowest allowing coasting and the highest allowing one-pedal driving and returning up to 90 kW to the battery. A 3.7-kW onboard AC charger is in charge of the battery’s charging, but Mercedes did not provide a recharging time estimate.
There are seven drive modes on the new S63. The S63 exclusively utilizes electric power up to 87 mph and starts silently in Electric mode, despite playing a start-up sound "characteristic of AMG" on the interior speakers. In addition, the AMG uses exterior loudspeakers to play a low-frequency sound at speeds of up to 19 mph to warn pedestrians of the luxo-barge’s presence. The car will go into Comfort mode when the battery is low, balancing the two propulsion systems for a smooth ride. A setting called "Battery Hold" keeps the battery charged, and the "Sport" and "Sport+" modes put the e-motor’s power first for fast driving. The torque curve is flattened in the Slippery setting, which prevents electric-only driving, and the Individual setting lets the driver customize the setup.
The AMG Ride Control+ suspension system, which includes adaptive dampers and air springs, enables the S63 to switch between a leisurely cruiser and a sports sedan depending on the drive mode. In addition, the S63 has active roll stabilization thanks to electro-mechanically controlled anti-roll bars that can be split in half to deal with varying road imperfections on either side of the vehicle when the speed exceeds 75 mph. The S63 is more stable when cornering at high speeds and more agile in tight spaces thanks to its standard rear-wheel steering.
A new grille with vertical slats and a front bumper with larger air intakes distinguish the S63 from the standard S-class. The S63 has 21-inch wheels, and the rear features a diffuser sandwiched between four trapezoidal tailpipes. With special AMG upholstery, stitching, seats, and steering wheel, the interior of an S-class is appropriately lavish and opulent. Specific AMG and hybrid displays are also included in the infotainment system.
