Introducing the all-new 2024 Lexus GX, a captivating blend of power, opulence, and cutting-edge off-road capabilities. Propelled by a robust twin-turbo V6 engine, the GX’s 3.4-liter petrol powerhouse generates an impressive 260kW of power and 650Nm of torque, harmoniously coupled with a seamless 10-speed automatic transmission.
While the GX will eventually offer a hybrid variant, this eco-friendly option will not be available at its initial launch. However, when it does arrive, it is likely to feature a 2.4-liter turbo petrol engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, drawing inspiration from the acclaimed setup found in the RX500h F Sport Performance model.
In the RX500h F Sport Performance, the hybrid configuration boasts an astounding 273kW of power, derived from a 202kW/460Nm petrol engine and two electric motor generators, producing 64kW/292Nm (front) and 76kW/169Nm (rear).
Irrespective of the chosen model, the GX boasts full-time four-wheel drive, a low-range transfer case, and a locking central differential to conquer any terrain with utmost confidence. Moreover, the rugged Overtrail variant will feature an additional locking rear differential, amplifying its off-road prowess.
nderneath its skin, the GX is built on the TNGA-F platform, the same foundation that underpins the latest Toyota LandCruiser 300. Sharing a wheelbase of 2850mm with the larger LX600, the GX measures 5004mm in length, 2114mm in width (including mirrors), and reaches heights of up to 1935mm, making it 96mm shorter in body length while slightly taller.
In the United States, the GX550 Premium and Premium+ models, along with the Overtrail and Overtrail+, boast a braked towing capacity of 3628kg. The GX550 Luxury and Luxury+ models are capable of towing 3170kg and 3075kg, respectively. However, it remains to be seen if these measurements will be applicable in Australia.
Lexus has enhanced the body rigidity of the GX, ensuring a refined and controlled driving experience. The standard suspension setup comprises double wishbones at the front and a multi-link system at the rear, while an optional adaptive variable suspension system is also available for those seeking even greater comfort and handling prowess.
Within the cabin, the GX is equipped with a standard 14-inch central touchscreen complemented by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a convenient head-up display. While embracing technological advancements, Lexus has retained physical dials for vital controls, enabling easy access and operation while on the move, be it on-road or off-road.
The GX offers flexible seating configurations, accommodating either seven or six passengers, ensuring enhanced legroom and toe room across all three rows. The second row can be effortlessly tumbled and folded to grant access to the rearmost seats, which can be manually or power-operated. Additionally, to cater to the modern family’s charging needs, six charging points are available to keep devices powered, accompanied by an impressive 12 cupholders.
Delivering an immersive auditory experience, the GX comes standard with a 10-speaker sound system in the United States, while higher-end models offer an optional 21-speaker setup.
As expected from a luxury vehicle, the GX encompasses a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features. These range from autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping assist for highway driving to a host of off-road aids, including crawl control and a 3D surround-view monitor, ensuring unparalleled safety and convenience in all driving conditions.
