2025 Honda NSX EV is released in 2025 with the price of $175,000.
Honda’s CEO, Toshihiro Mibe, envisions the forthcoming NSX as a vehicle boasting a "completely different taste," setting it apart from any performance car in the company’s history.
Unveiled at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, the Saloon Concept showcased a futuristic wedge-shaped design, providing a glimpse of a production model slated for potential arrival in North America around 2026, though no official timeline has been confirmed. Mibe emphasizes that development and production schedules remain undetermined, as Honda diligently assesses the current electric sports car market to ensure its upcoming offering stands unrivaled.
In a bid to secure a dominant position in the electric sports car arena, Honda is conducting a comprehensive analysis, with the CEO targeting competitors without explicitly naming them. Akio Toyoda, Toyota’s chairman, has acknowledged their pursuit of an electric sports car prototype, potentially emerging as one of the contenders Mibe alludes to.
Marking the debut of Honda’s new 0 Series, the forthcoming model is set to reach markets beyond Japan, spanning Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and South America. The CEO confirms ongoing development at the Research and Development Center, positioning this electric sports car as the flagship for the 0 Series, set to launch in two years.
Representing a departure from Honda’s traditional lineup, the 0 Series models promise spacious interiors, reduced battery weight, enhanced efficiency, and a renewed focus on the "joy of driving." This emphasis translates into a minimalist cabin and a driver-centric cockpit, housing E-axle drive units that seamlessly integrate motors, inverters, and gearboxes, as reported by Autocar.
CEO Toshihiro Mibe’s commitment to an electric sports car traces back over a decade when, as the head of Honda’s Research and Development division, he announced plans to revive the NSX. The Prelude concept coupe’s unveiling in 2023 confirmed this intent, marking a departure from the second-generation model produced until 2022.
Unlike its predecessor, the upcoming electric sports car eschews the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine and three electric motors, signaling a strategic shift. Acura, Honda’s premium brand, isn’t content to let Honda monopolize the electric sports car segment. While Acura has teased its vision for an electric sports car, Honda’s involvement remains uncertain as the brand focuses on crossover production with models like the RDX and MDX.
Reflecting on Honda’s past electric endeavors, the Honda e faced challenges at its 2019 unveiling, plagued by a high price and limited range. The hope is that lessons learned will pave the way for success in the electric sports car venture, distancing itself from the past missteps with a renewed commitment to innovation.
