The name "Inspire" is being used for a version of the most recent Accord that is sold in China. Honda has a habit of using the same names across various markets and continents.
We now have our first look at the new mid-size sedan thanks to China’s MIIT. The sixth-generation Honda Inspire, like its predecessor, will only be sold in China because the nameplate has been dropped from Japan. The eleventh generation of the Accord that is currently available in the US market has a lot in common with this model, which is to be expected. As is the case with the majority of Honda twins sold in China, the differences center on the front and rear ends.
While the Integra and Civic duo and other Hondas made for China are admittedly more appealing than their global counterparts, this is not the case with the Inspire. The midsize sedan keeps the Accord’s slim LED headlights (minus the US-spec indicators), but the new grille makes it look like a Stormtrooper-themed car from Star Wars. The grille’s horizontal slits might have looked better on an SUV, but they don’t do the four-door sedan any favors. Separate intakes reminiscent of the smaller Honda Civic have been added to the rest of the front bumper.
The Inspire has slimmer taillights at the back than the Accord, removing the trim that connects them. A lip spoiler is built into the tailgate, and the bumper has a sportier diffuser and vertical rather than horizontal reflectors. Depending on the trim, the latter can be body-colored or gloss black. The Accord shares the rest of the bodywork, including the greenhouse, doors, profile, and clamshell bonnet.
The Honda Inspire has a wheelbase of 2,830 mm (111.4 inches) and a length of 4,979 mm (196 inches), width of 1,862 mm (73.3 inches), and height of 1,449 mm (57 inches). Due to the different bumpers, it is 9 millimeters (0.4 inches) longer than the Accord, but the rest of the dimensions are nearly identical. The non-electrified turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that is widely used in Honda’s Chinese lineup and is produced locally by Dongfeng is included in the Honda Inspire. The mill has a CVT gearbox that sends power to the front axle and produces 189 horsepower (141 kW / 192 PS). The Honda Inspire will be officially introduced in China in a few months, so we will learn more about it then. It will be offered by Dongfeng-Honda as an alternative to the Accord by GAC-Honda, which is also expected to get updates this year to make it more in line with the Accord.
