Audi has pleasantly surprised enthusiasts with a refreshed appearance for the Q7 and SQ7, the dynamic mid-size, three-row SUV duo from the renowned brand. The primary focus of this update lies in a rejuvenated front end, with minimal mechanical distinctions between the latest and previous models.

Similar to the facelifted Audi Q8 and SQ8 lineup, the exterior lighting serves as a prominent differentiator. The flagship Q7 and SQ7 now boast HD Matrix LED headlights with laser light high beams, a groundbreaking addition functional over 43.5 mph. These headlights offer selectable light signatures, akin to the updated Audi SQ8. The taillights have evolved into digital OLED clusters, providing four distinct light designs for enhanced customization straight from the factory.

Complementing these enhancements are subtly redesigned front and rear fascias, featuring a novel interpretation of the Audi Singleframe grille with vertical inlays (L-shaped in the case of the SQ7) and body-colored air intake surrounds.

Audi asserts that the new design embraces a more minimalistic approach, eliminating excess styling elements deemed unnecessary. The judgment on this claim is left to the discerning eyes of the customers.

Moving on to performance, it appears that Audi has chosen not to revise the powertrains significantly. In Europe, a range of diesel and gasoline options are available, delivering power outputs ranging from 228 to 335 horsepower. In the United States, the Audi Q7 55 TFSI is anticipated to feature a 3.0-liter turbo V6 and a 48-volt mild hybrid system, producing 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque – mirroring the current powertrain.

The SQ7 retains its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, generating 500 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, with no changes from the current model. Despite the identical outputs and the same transmission and AWD system, Audi claims improved performance, achieving 0-62 mph in 4.1 seconds compared to the previous 4.3 seconds for 0-60 mph.

Regarding the chassis, the 48-volt mild hybrid system not only aids fuel economy but also supports the electronically-controlled air suspension (optionally adaptive) with 3.5 inches of adjustability. This can be coupled with optional rear-wheel steering for enhanced stability and maneuverability, providing up to five degrees of steering angle.

The highlight of the 48V system comes into play with the optional advanced suspension package, featuring a twin-clutch sport differential on the rear axle for torque vectoring and electromechanical active roll stabilization (eAWS). This technology, popularized by luxury brands like Rolls-Royce, minimizes body movement on uneven roads and while cornering, enhancing comfort. During spirited driving, the SQ7 leans into corners, counteracting body roll and providing increased confidence.

The SQ7 rides on standard 20-inch wheels, with optional upgrades to 21- and 22-inch sizes. Braking power is provided by 400mm and 350mm front and rear brakes, respectively.

Interior changes are minimal, with a few decorative adjustments such as contrasting grey stitching on the base model upholstery and nine options for decorative trim inlays. New paint colors like Sakhir Gold, Ascari Blue, and Chili Red have been introduced, accompanied by five fresh wheel designs ranging from 20 to 22 inches. Larger wheels (21 inches or more) offer Black Metallic, Gray Silk Matte, and diamond-cut Black Metallic finishes.

The MIB3 infotainment system persists but now includes additional apps, allowing users to download directly from third-party app suppliers like Spotify and Amazon Music.
