Audi has not abandoned the launch of cars with combustion engines. While every new product launch with Four Rings is expected to be electric by 2026, the third-generation Q5 is set to debut later this year. However, testing must be completed first, which is why at least two prototypes are currently undergoing tests near the Arctic Circle. Despite the internal combustion engine under its hood, it appears that the Q5’s styling takes after the Q4 E-Tron.

Although both prototypes captured on camera had the production body, neither had the final taillights. These basic circular clusters are merely a temporary setup that will be replaced by slimmer LEDs and possibly a lightbar mounted on the tailgate. At the front, it is difficult not to notice the large (and fake) air intakes installed by Audi on the sides of the bumper, which use the same pattern as the grille.

A distinct prototype model is shown with large exhaust tips on either side of the rear bumper. This is likely an S Line version since the SQ5 has already been spotted with the typical quad arrangement. While Audi has not given the Q5 the RS treatment, there is a possibility it might happen this time. It’s now or never for a high-performance model powered by a combustion engine.

As the test vehicles were caught in motion, it was difficult to take a peek inside. However, the most recent spy shots from last year provided a glimpse of the fully redesigned dashboard. The dashboard has a large tablet-like infotainment screen to the right of a rectangular digital instrument cluster. Although the generous screen real estate has taken over most conventional controls, the center console still has some physical buttons.

The new Q5 is expected to share its interior with the next-generation A4, which is also slated for release this year, potentially as an Avant-only model. Speaking of wagons, an RS4 is in the works, and if Audi decides to make an RS Q5 for the first time, both models are likely to have a plug-in hybrid setup.
