Again taking from its rich automotive history, Renault introduced the world to the avant-garde reinvention called the Renault R17 Electric Restomod, inspired by the classic of the 1970s. This creative collaboration of Renault with one of France’s most eminent designers, Ora Ito, finally gave a modern twist to the iconic Renault 17, fusing heritage and innovation in such a way as to raise eyebrows regarding proper taste and pay homage to the original.

Ora lto, a design icon of our time, reimagines the Renault 17 with a retro-futuristic spin. The R17 Electric Restomod has an electric powertrain delivering 270 horsepower to the rear wheels, a carbon fiber chassis and a body 17 cm wider for better performance and stance. The four square headlights and full width rear LED light bar are modern, yet pay homage to the 70s original design.

Balancing Heritage and Modern Interior Luxury

Inside, the restomod keeps the essence of the Renault 17 with reimagined seats, central screen and geometric displays, a perfect balance of modern functionality and classic style. The brown Merino wool and beige boucle fabrics used in the upholstery gives the cabin a luxurious and retro feel.

The Renault R17 Electric Restomod will be shown at various events, including the 2024 Paris Motor Show, but it’s a one off concept for now with no plans for production. But public interest might change that, just like it did with the Hyundai N Vision 74.

No Production Plans—But Hope for the Future?
