Latest Update: 2024 Mercedes Benz G-Class debut will take place in the first part of 2024..

Images of not one, not two, but three Mercedes-Benz EQG test vehicles have been captured by our spy photographers up north. One of them still boasts the electric-themed wrap that we’ve previously seen, while the other two resemble standard G-Class prototypes, albeit with swirl camouflage on everything except the doors. What’s particularly interesting about these two is that our photographer managed to take a peek underneath one of them and get a glimpse of its all-electric powertrain.

It’s certainly an odd sight to see no exhaust system at the back or engine components at the front, but that’s precisely what we have here. The massive shocks are hard to miss, but other parts are more challenging to identify. We can make out control arms and what we think is an electronic power steering rack at the front, while skid plates are easily visible. We also notice what appears to be a front differential in the middle and another one at the back, as well as a substantial sway bar. The ladder frame is also visible, confirming that the EQG will maintain the G-Class’s rugged character.

The presence of two differentials is noteworthy since we know that the EQG will have a quad-motor configuration, with one motor powering each wheel. This has been confirmed, and these could be the motor housings. However, the rear housing seems a bit too small for two motors. Could this be an as-yet-unknown EQG model with a tri-motor setup?

Aside from the undercarriage, this prototype also appears to have a distinct grille, hidden by a mesh camouflage cover. We can also see slight variations in the front and rear bumpers, which seem thicker overall than those on the blue-wrapped prototypes. Additionally, the rear fenders with mysterious vents seem to have vanished. Whether these modifications indicate a different trim level or are simply a ploy to deceive us is yet to be determined.
