Latest Update: Volkswagen ID.7 86kWh announced in January 2023, with a starting price of $38,000.

The Volkswagen ID.7, which is a new model for VW in the United States, will make its disguised debut this week at CES in Las Vegas. Even though the final production body is covered in what VW calls "digital camouflage," the ID.7’s size and scope should help shed some light on exactly how it will appear when it arrives. This is the first time VW has officially revealed the ID.7 nameplate.

The modular electric drive matrix platform (MEB) that is used in all of Volkswagen Group’s EVs is used in the ID.7, but unlike the ID.4, it is not compact. The ID.7 has a wheelbase of 116.9 inches and it loosens up to an all out length of 194.5 inches. This makes this electric vehicle slightly longer than the Arteon, and VW promises a roomier and more expensive interior as a result of its longer length.

The ID.7 promises a new 15.0-inch touchscreen, illuminated touch sliders, an augmented reality head-up display, and even digitally controlled air vents that automatically adjust the temperature inside the vehicle based on how hot or cold it is outside as part of VW’s effort to improve its interior technology. The ID.7 will also include "Hello Volkswagen" voice controls for controlling fundamental functions.

Sadly, buyers will not be able to purchase the awesome ID.7 "digital camouflage," but it is intriguing. It’s really paint - somewhere around 40 layers worth. Using electroluminescence, around 22 areas of the vehicle are electrified below the top layer of paint to produce a one-of-a-kind light show.

The ID.7 will have a range of approximately 435 miles (700 kilometers) on the generous WLTP European cycle, but the battery size, power output, and price are still unknown. Using the EPA scale, that range number will, of course, be lower in the United States. The ID.7 will be offered for sale by Volkswagen in North America, China, and Europe.
