Mercedes is pushing forward with its electric vehicle plans, with the goal of transitioning to an entirely electric lineup by 2030 "where market conditions permit." The EQA compact crossover currently serves as the entry-level option in the EV range, and will soon be joined by a sedan in the middle of the decade. Recently spotted on a snowy test track in Scandinavia, the new sedan is still in the early stages of development, as evidenced by its heavy camouflage and lack of production lights.
The new sedan seems to feature fake door handles, likely indicating that Mercedes intends to improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics by installing recessed handles that remain flush with the body when not in use. The hood and trunk lid are heavily disguised, and the rear bumper features an unusual cutout. The front of the vehicle features quadrilateral sections with a mesh pattern, indicating that a prominent faux grille is likely hidden beneath the camouflage.
It should be noted that this prototype is not to be confused with the future EQC. It appears to be a smaller electric sedan intended to serve as the electric equivalent of the CLA. According to recent reports, Mercedes plans to phase out the EQ branding in 2024, which means that this electric sedan will likely be given a different name. Additionally, it is believed that the A-Class Sedan with internal combustion engines will be discontinued by 2025, making this EV an indirect replacement for it.

The A-Class Sedan with internal combustion engines is also expected to be phased out by 2025, making this EV its potential indirect replacement.
The new compact electric sedan, based on the Mercedes Modular Electric Architecture (MMA), will be positioned to compete in the compact and midsize segments. The production of the vehicle is expected to take place at the Rastatt (Germany) and Kecskemét (Hungary) factories. The design of the car is likely to incorporate some aerodynamic elements from the Vision EQXX concept, as well as the new MB.OS infotainment system developed in-house by Mercedes. The car may have been previewed by Mercedes chief designer Gorden Wagener in May 2022 as part of the brand’s future "Entry Luxury" lineup. As the prototype is heavily camouflaged, an official debut for the vehicle is not expected in the near future, with a likely reveal in 2024.
