Cadillac has released an update for its subcompact crossover, the XT4, joining the ranks of General Motors’ recently updated Chevrolet Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX. Although the new model is set to hit dealerships in the summer, we can already get a glimpse of what’s in store.

The most significant changes are found inside the vehicle, where the outdated button-heavy interior and old-fashioned gauges have been removed. Instead, there is a single expansive display screen that combines a new digital instrument cluster and central infotainment system. Measuring 33 inches diagonally and boasting 9K resolution, the screen is inspired by the one in the Cadillac Lyriq and has a slight curve towards the driver to enhance visibility and control.

The 2024 XT4 boasts a new interior layout that combines tactile controls with a modern, customizable interface. The shift stalk for the transmission remains, along with a rotary dial that offers additional infotainment system functionality. The interior can be personalized with a range of colors and decor options, including wood, carbon fiber, and aluminum, depending on the trim level and package choices. The higher trim levels offer ventilated massaging seats, while a cold weather package includes heated seats and steering.

The customizable user interface is accessible through the large screen, which is complemented by Google built-in features that can be controlled through touch or voice commands. The 2024 model also introduces a new 13-speaker AKG Studio stereo and over a dozen standard-issue driver-assist and safety systems, such as rear cross-traffic alert with braking, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beam light control, and lane-departure warning.

The Active Safety Package, which includes adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency braking, pedestrian alerts, speed limit assist, traffic sign recognition, and more, is only available on higher-level XT4 trims. However, all trims offer 5G connectivity and a power liftgate.

From a visual perspective, it may be challenging to distinguish the new XT4 from its predecessors, but not impossible. Look for thinner, sharper LED running lights mounted vertically at the corners, and the standard-issue LED headlights have been relocated to the corner vents. The lower fascia has a retextured design but retains the same shape as the outgoing model. The redesigned fascia at the rear features vertically positioned horizontal reflectors. The 2024 model also has new wheel options. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine remains unchanged, delivering 235 horsepower through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
