2025 Toyota Supra GRMN is launched in 2025 with the cost of $86,660.
For years, there have been rumors of a Supra GRMN, but the spicy derivative has not been seen. According to a new Best Car report, Toyota has not abandoned the idea of introducing a derivative with the suffix "Gazoo Racing Meister of Nürburgring." As a result of the rumored release of a Supra with no combustion engines in 2025, it will almost certainly occur.
The Japanese magazine predicts that the Supra GRMN will have somewhere in the neighborhood of 543 horsepower as the fifth-generation model’s final model. Toyota will use BMW M’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter S58 engine, which produces the same output in the M4 CSL and M3 CS, according to logic. In addition, the Bavarians use this engine with an additional 10 horsepower in the ultra-exclusive 3.0 CSL, whereas the new M2 uses the same inline-six in a detuned configuration.
It would appear that Toyota has already decided to replace the Z4-based Supra with a model of the next generation. We don’t even know where it will be built, so many pieces of the puzzle are missing. As a reminder, Magna Steyr, which also builds the equivalent BMW, makes the current model in Graz, Austria. There is no immediate plan to replace the soft-top Bavarian roadster, which is expected to retire in 2025.
According to Best Car, the Supra Mk6 will adopt midship dimensions while maintaining the rear-wheel-drive configuration. It is said to have no combustion engine at all and ride on an improved version of the e-TNGA platform. Since the exciting concept with Gazoo Racing branding that was unveiled at the end of 2021 appeared to be smaller, it probably won’t be related to the Sports EV.
Take the report with a grain of salt, especially considering that switching from a pure ICE setup to an entirely electric drivetrain appears to be quite a radical move. Given Toyota’s insistence that combustion engines will continue to be used in automobiles, a hybrid powertrain is not out of the question. The Supra will follow in the footsteps of the Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman EV, which is expected to be released in the same year as the Supra.
In the interim, Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, is developing an all-electric LFA with a simulated manual gearbox. The zero-emission supercar, which was shown off in the Electrified Sport concept, will also have all-wheel drive and brake-by-wire when it comes out later this decade.
