The company has been notably discreet regarding the prospect of an emissions-free Tonale. The only tidbit we have comes from Alfa Romeo’s Head of Products, Daniel Tiago Guzzafame, who acknowledged the technical feasibility of a Tonale EV. Speaking to Inside EVs during the North American launch last February, he tantalizingly mentioned, "the architecture could technically support a pure electric version but that has not been decided yet."

Yet, the plot thickens. Speculation swirls around the teaser, suggesting the tantalizing prospect of a more potent combustion or hybrid variant, possibly akin to a QV model. The enigmatic "New Era" Alfa Romeo teases seems poised to transcend the realms of a mere trim level or special edition. Or, intriguingly, it might not even be related to the Tonale.

Adding another layer to the intrigue, Alfa Romeo had previously teased a compact electric crossover. Initially known as the Brennero, this EV is anticipated to share its foundations with the Jeep Avenger, which, in turn, bears similarities to Europe’s Peugeot e-2008 and other models within the Stellantis family. Positioned below the Tonale in the company’s lineup, this enigmatic crossover is scheduled for an unveiling in the first half of 2024, promising a compelling addition to Alfa Romeo’s electrifying narrative.
