The 2028 Toyota Hilux FCEV Edition takes the whole lot of people who love the legendary, indestructible pickup and gives it a futuristic, 0-emission twist. Instead of walking on a loud diesel engine, this model uses hydrogen gas cellular technology.

That approach you get all the heavy-duty muscle and off-avenue grit you anticipate from a Hilux, but the most effective factor coming out of the tailpipe is pure water vapor. The high-quality part is that refilling the hydrogen tanks takes just a few minutes at a pump, so you can gas up nearly as quick as you will with traditional fuel.

While hydrogen stations are still stoning up around the world, this truck is a massive leap forward for each person who desires a critical workhorse without the heavy carbon footprint. It bridges the distance for drivers who need the environmental perks of an EV, but nonetheless want the rugged range, towing functionality, and reliability that made the Hilux famous inside the first vicinity.

How does the hydrogen fuel cell system work?

Hydrogen stored in high-stress tanks reacts with oxygen taken from the outdoor air within the gas cell stack. This chemical response produces power to strength the electric motor and charge a small hybrid buffer battery.
