Mercedes Citan LWB

As a rebadged and slightly redesigned version of the Renault Kangoo, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the second generation Citan in August 2021. The standard and long-wheelbase versions of the French light commercial vehicle are available, and it appears that the German manufacturer is also developing a stretched version of the Citan.

Spy shots using the Citan LWB are displayed in the gallery above. Since there isn’t much to hide, the prototypes our people spotted don’t have a lot of camouflage, which is understandable. In comparison to the standard Citan, we do not anticipate any visual changes, and there will be no elements of a facelift or something similar.

All of the test vehicles are the passenger model, but Mercedes will also offer the Citan LWB as a cargo model, like the longer Renault Kangoo Maxi. If you live in Europe and miss the good old days of the MPV market, you’ll probably be glad to learn that the stretched van from Stuttgart will come with seven seats.

Aside from that, the vehicle will not differ from the standard Citan in any way. This indicates that the mechanical components, such as the 1.5-liter diesel engine with 74 horsepower (55 kilowatts), 94 horsepower (70 kW), or 114 horsepower (85 kW), will be replicated. All three options are available for the cargo version of the short Citan, but only the midrange diesel is available for the Citan Tourer. There is also a gasoline-turbocharged 1.3-liter engine with either 101 horsepower (75 kW) or 129 horsepower (96 kW).

It will be interesting to see if the longer Citan gets an electric version as well. The front wheels of the eCitan are powered by an electric motor that has a peak output of 120 horsepower (90 kW) and 181 lb-ft (245 Nm) of torque. Under the WLTP combined driving cycle, a 44-kilowatt-hour battery pack can store energy for up to 177 miles (285 kilometers) on a single charge. The van can come with a 75 kW DC onboard charger as an option.
